The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting online value-added tax (VAT) returns for the July-September 2026 tax periods to 25 October.
Taxpayers can file their returns through the NBR’s e-VAT system by the extended deadline without incurring interest or penalties.
The NBR announced the extension in a notice signed by its Second Secretary, Sheikh Md Masudur Rahman, on Thursday.
The notice said the e-VAT system requires some administrative changes following amendments to the rules governing VAT return filing under the national budget for the 2026-27 financial year.
To allow time for these changes, the NBR extended the deadline under Section 64(2) of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012.
The government has also introduced new rules setting the deadlines for filing VAT returns. Under the new rules, most registered taxpayers must submit their returns within 15 days of the end of each tax period.
However, government and semi-government bodies, autonomous organisations, banks, insurance companies and taxpayers submitting nil returns will have 20 days to file their returns.
The Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026, was published in an extra issue of the Bangladesh Gazette on 14 October.
