Two people were killed and seven others were injured in separate road accidents in Bagerhat and Jashore districts on Thursday.

BAGERHAT: A seven-month pregnant garment worker was killed and seven others were injured when a Mahindra three-wheeler collided with a battery-powered van near the Mongla Export Processing Zone (EPZ) on Thursday evening.

Kakoli Begum, 28, was returning home after her shift at JINLITE Company in the EPZ when the crash occurred. She was rushed to Mongla Port Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Police said the Mahindra, carrying EPZ workers towards Mongla bus stand, overturned after colliding with the oncoming van, throwing passengers onto the road. The injured were also female garment workers.

Officer-in-Charge of Mongla Police Station Md Atikur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying further legal action would depend on the family’s decision and any complaint filed.

JASHORE: Two teenagers, Nayan, 19, and Mithila, 15, who were in a romantic relationship, were killed in a head-on collision between their motorcycle and a mini pickup in Chougachha Upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 4 pm in Talikhola Village as the pair was travelling to Aradhya Restaurant.

Mithila was riding the motorcycle and was reportedly not wearing a helmet, according to preliminary information cited by eyewitnesses and police.

Both suffered critical injuries and were taken to Jashore General Hospital, where doctors declared Nayan dead. Mithila died while being transported to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Nayan was the son of Nazrul Islam of Azampur Village in Maheshpur Upazila of Jhenaidah District. Mithila was from Bakpara Village in Chougachha.
