Singapore has expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in Bangladesh's infrastructure, logistics and industrial sectors, with particular emphasis on terminal development and operation.
The interest was expressed at a meeting between Invest Bangladesh Authority Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun and Singapore High Commission Charge d'Affaires in Bangladesh Philip Ong at the authority's office on Sunday.
The meeting discussed Bangladesh's investment climate, institutional coordination, infrastructure development and ways to expand bilateral economic cooperation.
During the meeting, Ong praised the initiative to establish Invest Bangladesh Authority by bringing together the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and Public Private Partnership (PPP) Authority.
He said such institutional reforms could ensure more coordinated, faster and more effective services for investors.
Ashik Chowdhury said the institutional integration and coordination initiative could be expanded in the future, with opportunities to bring more institutions under the integrated framework in phases.
He said the authority aimed to ensure effective logistics support for investors, encourage investment in solar power plants, advance privatisation initiatives, accelerate digitalisation and create a conducive environment for industrial development.
The meeting also explored Singapore's potential investment in Bangladesh's infrastructure and logistics sectors.
In this connection, the participants discussed the experience and capabilities of Singapore-based global port operator PSA International and the potential for its involvement in the development and operation of terminals in Bangladesh."BSS
