CAIRO, Oct 18: Egypt says it will provide “all necessary and possible support to Saudi Arabia to defend its safety and stability”.
The National Defence Council, chaired by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, says it “stands fully with” Saudi Arabia to defend its resources, territorial integrity and Islamic holy sites.
The president’s office added that Cairo would also intensify diplomatic efforts for de-escalation.
Riyadh is unlikely to request Egyptian military support in the immediate future, even if Egypt’s parliament approves an intervention, Middle East security expert TalhaAbdulrazaq told Al Jazeera.
He said that the Mecca defence pact countries - Pakistan and Turkiye - are likely to be Saudi Arabia’s first port of call to defend the kingdom’s territory." AL JAZEERA
