PM calls for unity across religions

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on people of all religions to work shoulder to shoulder to build Bangladesh, stressing that every citizen has equal rights regardless of religious identity.

Addressing members of the Hindu community during a visit to Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka on Monday (October 19) on the occasion of Durga Puja, the prime minister said the state belonged to everyone and was responsible for ensuring the security of all citizens.

“This country belongs to you, and this country belongs to me. Let us all work together, shoulder to shoulder, to build the country,” he said.

Tarique Rahman said Bangladeshis should prioritise their shared national identity over religious differences and look after one another to advance the country.

Recalling the 1971 Liberation War, he added people of different faiths had fought together for independence without distinguishing between religious communities.

He also referred to the 2024 mass uprising, saying people from different religious backgrounds had joined the movement to establish their rights.

The prime minister urged citizens to remain united in the country's development, saying progress would benefit everyone regardless of religion.

He also extended greetings to members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Durga Puja, describing the festival as a celebration of joy and togetherness.
