Member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have reaffirmed their support for the case concerning the Rohingya before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), expressing hope that it will pave the way for a lasting solution to the protracted crisis.
The pledge was made at a meeting of the OIC Ministerial Ad Hoc Committee on Accountability for Human Rights Violations against the Rohingya, held on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad, Iraq.
Earlier, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir urged member states to act collectively and proactively to resolve the crisis. Describing the Rohingya crisis as a major challenge for the Ummah, he called for a collective response to support humanitarian and legal efforts.
He also underscored the importance of the five-point action plan outlined by the Prime Minister during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), calling for urgent and decisive action, particularly to ensure justice and accountability through legal mechanisms.
