Japanese investors have announced an initial investment of US$1.2 billion to develop Bangladesh’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
The announcement came during a courtesy meeting between a Japanese investors’ delegation and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat at the Secretariat recently, according to a press release issued by the ministry.
Speaking at the meeting, the minister said Bangladesh had enormous tourism potential, citing the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest, Cox’s Bazar’s long natural sandy beach and the tea gardens of Sylhet as major attractions offering significant opportunities for foreign investment.
He said the government welcomed foreign investment to develop the sector and unlock its potential.
Describing Japan as a longstanding and trusted friend of Bangladesh, Millat highlighted Japan’s significant contributions to the country’s infrastructure development. He expressed the government’s interest in working with Japanese investors under the public-private partnership (PPP) framework to expand the tourism industry.
