Prime Minister's political assistant Rashed Khan has accused Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami of conspiring with the Awami League against the BNP government, alleging that the two parties are attempting to create unrest in the country as they did in 1996.
He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after inaugurating a free medical camp at Chaprail Abubakar Biswas Moksed Ali College in Kaliganj upazila on Thursday (October 22).
Criticising the opposition, Rashed Khan said Jamaat had formed alliances with the Awami League in 1996 and 1986 and that the two parties had now come together again.
He alleged that Jamaat and the Awami League had launched a fresh conspiracy against the BNP government.
Rashed Khan also referred to an incident during the prime minister's visit to Rajshahi, where a young man allegedly threatened on Facebook to kill the prime minister with a sniper rifle.
He said authorities should investigate whether the opposition had instigated the incident. He further alleged that the opposition's provocations and controversial positions had encouraged the young man to make the remarks about the prime minister.
Criticising the Jamaat ameer, Rashed Khan accused him of repeatedly making false statements.
He said Jamaat leaders might regard their ameer as a saint, but alleged that he had repeatedly engaged in political falsehoods. Rashed Khan also claimed that the Jamaat chief had been involved with Jasad Chhatra League and acts of violence before joining Jamaat, questioning whether he had stopped making false statements after joining the party.
Rashed Khan said leaders and activists of the BNP, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal were prepared to resist what he described as a conspiracy by Jamaat and the Awami League, with the support of the people.
