The government has taken an initiative to reopen closed textile, jute and textile-processing mills and bring them back into production, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam has said.
The initiative aims to create new jobs, reduce unemployment and strengthen the national economy by restarting these industrial facilities, he said.
The state minister made the remarks while visiting Amin Jute Mills Limited in Chattogram on Thursday (October 22).
He said, reopening closed textile, jute and textile mills was one of the government's key election pledges. The government is prioritising industrial development, job creation and the expansion of economic activities to fulfil this commitment.
He said reviving closed factories was crucial to utilising the country's industrial potential. If these facilities could be brought back into operation effectively, they would create new employment opportunities, increase industrial production and strengthen the national economy.
Regarding Amin Jute Mills in Chattogram, Shariful Alam said, the government was seriously considering how to restore the mill's production, generate employment opportunities through its operations and ensure its contribution to the national economy.
He stressed that industrial facilities should not be viewed merely as physical infrastructure but should be transformed into active centres of production, employment and economic growth.
To this end, the potential for reopening the mills needs to be assessed based on existing facilities, production capacity and realistic plans, he said.
The state minister added that proper planning and initiatives could help unlock the potential of closed industrial facilities across the country, including Amin Jute Mills. This would accelerate industrialisation, increase employment, boost local economies and contribute positively to national economic growth.
He said, the main objective of the initiative was to revitalise the industrial sector, utilise the potential of closed factories and advance economic development through job creation.
Officials from the relevant departments and employees of Amin Jute Mills were present during the visit.
