National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam has accused the government of acting against the people and undermining democracy, calling on the home and energy ministers to resign over their failure to fulfil their responsibilities.

He made the remarks on Friday while inaugurating a week-long leaflet distribution campaign in Dhaka protesting the deteriorating law and order situation, rising commodity prices, fuel price hikes and politicisation of state institutions.

Criticising the government, Nahid alleged that it had formed an undeclared alliance with the Awami League and engaged in various misdeeds before and after the election. He warned that no wrongdoing would be tolerated in the future.

Other NCP leaders at the programme accused the government of deceiving the public and increasing the prices of essential commodities, causing further hardship for ordinary people.

The NCP also announced a demonstration in Dhaka on October 30 to press home its four-point demands.
