Veteran sports journalist Shamim Chowdhury has been honoured for a career spanning 34 years, marked by research-driven reporting, painstaking record-keeping and an enduring commitment to telling sport's story beyond the scoreboard.
The Daily Sun sports editor received a special award from an online news outlet at its third anniversary and distinguished personalities' ceremony at the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) auditorium in Dhaka on Friday. The medial outlet's Chief editor AB Ziauddin and editor Rashed Talukder presented the award.
Chowdhury began his journey in sports journalism in the early 1990s and has since worked across print and digital platforms. He is also recognised as a sports analyst and researcher, with his work reflecting an uncommon devotion to facts, figures and the historical record of Bangladeshi sport. His byline has appeared on significant sporting stories over the decades, while his research has helped preserve memories that might otherwise have slipped through the cracks.
His distinction includes multiple Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) Best Reporting awards in sports. He was also honoured by the Bangladesh Sports Writers Association (BSWA) after winning the DRU award for best sports reporting in 2011.
The latest recognition, therefore, is more than an award; it is a nod to a lifetime spent keeping the sporting record straight.
