A 15-year-old girl, Samia Noor, died after falling from the eighth floor of PG Hospital in the capital on Saturday around 2:30 PM.
She was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where she died while receiving treatment at the One-Stop Emergency Centre (OSEC).
Samia was a seventh-grade student at Kamaljuri Yusuf Ali High School and Girls College. Her father, Nurunnabi, told DMCH reporters that his wife had been admitted to PG Hospital five to six days ago for treatment of a uterine tumour. She was scheduled for surgery on October 28.
According to her father, Samia had eaten and was sitting on a waist-high window-like ledge near her mother's bed when she became dizzy while looking down and accidentally fell.
Doctors told him that she had suffered a broken neck and arm, bleeding from her ear and severe internal bleeding.
“I had no children of my own. I adopted her when she was three and raised her with so much love. Today, I have lost everything,” he said.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the death, saying the body had been kept in the hospital morgue and the relevant police station had been informed.
