A parliamentary standing committee on foreign affairs has sought details from the Foreign Ministry about the execution of two Bangladeshi nationals in Saudi Arabia.
At a meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday, the ministry informed the committee that it had requested detailed information from Saudi authorities.
The committee, chaired by MP Joharat Adib Chowdhury, recommended that the ministry provide a full account of the incident once the information is received, outline measures to prevent similar cases and report any action taken against consular officials if negligence is found.
It also recommended that the ministry present a detailed modernisation plan to improve services at Bangladesh's missions in Saudi Arabia.
The meeting discussed the activities and staffing of Bangladesh's missions in the kingdom, bilateral trade, employment, remittances, labour market challenges and opportunities, workers' welfare services and Hajj operations.
The committee also urged the ministry to take necessary measures to protect Bangladeshi women working in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir attended the meeting by special invitation, along with committee members and senior officials from the ministry and Parliament Secretariat.
