Security forces in Uganda have arrested a man accused of killing around 38 people and eating their flesh over a 15-year period, according to the country's military chief.
The suspect, identified as Muzurizi Moses, is accused of committing the killings between 2010 and 2025 in the districts of Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo.
Ugandan Defence Forces chief General Muhoozi Kainerugaba confirmed the arrest in a post on X on Monday evening. He described Moses as one of the country's most notorious killers and said he would face a public trial, adding that he expected the suspect to receive the death penalty.
Local investigators said the killings allegedly involved brutal attacks on families. The suspect reportedly targeted homes at night, attacking residents with sharp weapons. In one incident, members of a Pentecostal pastor's family were allegedly killed.
Investigators also suspect that some victims were lured through romantic advances or promises of relationships before being killed. The suspect had reportedly been arrested on previous occasions but managed to escape or secure his release.
Police have recovered several pieces of evidence from the suspect's hideout and are examining whether he was linked to long-standing missing-person cases and unsolved killings in the area.
The allegations are subject to judicial proceedings, and the suspect's guilt must be established in court.
