Bangladesh Open University (BOU) will be made more up-to-date to create educational opportunities for all and develop skilled human resources, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said on Wednesday.
“The Open University was not established merely to award certificates; rather, its objective was to create educational opportunities for everyone and equip them with skills,” he said while addressing a discussion marking the 34th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Open University (BOU).
The minister said many people begin their education but cannot complete it for various reasons. Efforts must be made to encourage these dropout students to resume their studies and provide them with opportunities to do so. This is the core responsibility of the Open University, he added.
Milon said BOU would be made more time-befitting as part of the ongoing efforts to modernize the country’s education system.
Former Prime Minister late Begum Khaleda Zia established BOU to make education more accessible and inclusive, he said, adding that the university had enabled students with interrupted educational journeys to pursue learning regardless of age.
The minister stressed the need for effective measures to make the Open University more modern and advanced."BSS
