The technical evaluation committee of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has proposed raising the price of a 12kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder by Tk 139 to Tk 1,976.

The proposal was presented at a public hearing organised by BERC. LPG traders, however, proposed increasing the price to Tk 2,232.

BERC Chairman said a decision on adjusting LPG prices would be made after considering the interests of the relevant stakeholders and the rationale behind their proposals.

On October 4, BERC last raised the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder by Tk 252 to Tk 1,837.

LPG operators have proposed an increase of Tk 300 per 12kg cylinder. However, whether the proposed price will take effect depends on the public hearing and BERC's subsequent decision.

The public hearing was held at the BIAM auditorium in the capital and continued until 4:00 PM.
