A helicopter carrying six people, including a pilot, crashed near Joshimath in India's Uttarakhand state on Friday (October 30), with all six occupants feared dead, according to officials.
The Trans Bharat Aviation helicopter (VT-HCX) was flying from Badrinath to Sahastradhara in Dehradun when it lost contact near the Joshimath valley in Chamoli district. It took off at around 1:14PM amid snowfall and reportedly crashed near Chhai village.
The occupants included pilot Captain Himanshu and five passengers identified as Prathapa, Arun, Shankar Gowda, Sudheer K and HS Natraja. The wreckage was later found.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami confirmed the crash and said district authorities, the disaster management department and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were conducting rescue operations. The aviation authority grounded Trans Bharat Aviation's fleet as a precaution, while Army, police and health teams were mobilised.
