A Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran on Friday (October 30) to hold talks with Iranian officials as diplomatic efforts intensify to revive stalled negotiations between the United States and Iran, according to Iranian state media.
The delegation, led by a senior adviser to Qatar's prime minister and foreign minister, is expected to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, the IRNA news agency reported. Qatari mediators are also seeking an agreement to end the conflict, with the initiative coordinated with Washington.
The renewed diplomatic push follows Qatar's presentation of a draft peace plan to Iran on Sunday. However, a senior Iranian official reportedly rejected the proposal as unacceptable, saying Tehran would not change its position on nuclear issues.
Washington wants nuclear issues included from the outset of negotiations, while Tehran is demanding that the US first lift its blockade on Iranian ports and oil export sanctions, Reuters reported.
The latest effort comes after previous negotiations collapsed over disagreements on freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies and trade.
