Govt staff ordered to evict tenants by today

The government has ordered allottees of government houses and flats to evict tenants or sublessees by October 31, warning that their allotments will be cancelled and legal action taken if they fail to comply. 

The Directorate of Government Accommodation under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works issued an urgent public notice on October 29, signed by Director Md Jahirul Islam Khan.

The notice said no part or the entirety of a government house or flat allotted under the directorate can be sublet or rented out to anyone. Allottees must reside in the accommodation allotted in their names. It said a recent inspection found that some allottees had rented out one or more rooms or their entire houses or flats, in violation of the Bangladesh Allotment Rules, 1982.

Those found to have tenants or sublessees after the October 31 deadline will face cancellation of their allotments without further show-cause notices, along with punitive and legal action.
Under Rule 14(3), the directorate will also inform the allottees’ heads of office and appointing authorities and request departmental disciplinary action.

The directive followed inspections of government houses and flats by directorate officials. The Public Works Department and local engineers have also been informed to help enforce the order.�"BSS
