The government is moving to bring teachers under CCTV surveillance by installing cameras in classrooms and introducing centralised monitoring to curb absenteeism and irregularities in teaching, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said on Saturday (October 31).
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat after announcing this year's HSC and equivalent examination results, the minister said the CCTV system previously used at examination centres would now be extended to classrooms.
Classroom activities will be recorded, with footage preserved in principals' archives to ensure regular teaching, he said.
The ministry will also conduct scheduled college inspections to monitor teachers' attendance and classroom activities.
Milon said the government would expedite teacher recruitment to address the long-standing shortage. A new curriculum is also being developed to strengthen students' skills in core subjects, including English and ICT.
Expressing concern over this year's HSC results, the minister said the pass rate had fallen to its lowest level in 20 years, with nearly half of the candidates failing. The ministry is examining the reasons behind the decline.
