Amite replaces Mominul for Sylhet Test

Bangladesh have brought in young batter Amite Hasan as a replacement for experienced campaigner Mominul Haque in their 15-member squad for the second Test against West Indies, scheduled to begin in Sylhet on November 5.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the change after Mominul was ruled out under the International Cricket Council's concussion protocol.

The left-handed batter sustained a head injury while fielding during the first Test in Mirpur and must observe a mandatory minimum seven-day stand-down period before returning to play.

Mominul was replaced by concussion substitute Jaker Ali during the opening Test, which West Indies won by eight wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Amite's inclusion comes on the back of an impressive run in the ongoing National Cricket League. The right-handed batter struck an unbeaten 201 in the fourth round before adding 34 runs against Chattogram in the fifth round on Saturday.

The 23-year-old made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in June this year. Although he has played only one Test so far, his domestic first-class record suggests considerable potential. He has scored 4,040 runs in 54 matches at an average of 50.50.

The rest of the Bangladesh squad remains unchanged, with Najmul Hossain Shanto continuing as captain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz as vice-captain. Mushfiqur Rahim, who missed the Mirpur Test with a finger injury, is also included.

Bangladesh will be looking to level the series in Sylhet after their batting faltered in both innings of the opening match. Amite's selection offers the team another batting option, although whether he makes the playing XI remains to be seen.
