The Parbatya Chattogram Rakkha Committee has declared a 48-hour counter-blockade along the Sajek tourism route on Wednesday and Thursday (November 4-5), escalating uncertainties over regional movement amid an indefinite road blockade already in place.
The member secretary of the organization, Bindu Lal Chakma, announced the protest program through a press release issued on Tuesday.
The committee stated that the indefinite blockade in effect since late October has crippled the tourism sector, local commerce, and public life across Sajek.
Local farmers face heavy losses due to an inability to transport Jhum cultivation produce to regional markets, while hotel and resort owners, transport workers, and traders suffer severe financial strain following the prolonged closure of the tourist hub.
The ongoing indefinite blockade was originally enforced on October 22 by the Sajek Gano Odhikar Rakkha Committee and the Sajek Karbari Association. Though temporarily relaxed for one day on November 1, the strike resumed on November 2, before the fresh counter-blockade was called.
Emergency services—including ambulances, fire service units, press vehicles, and transport carrying essential foodstuffs and medical supplies—will remain exempt from the 48-hour blockade, according to the Parbatya Chattogram Rakkha Committee.
