A Dhaka court on Thursday remanded Ahmed Shahriar Reza Deep, a suspect in the murder of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Sauri, for another two days for interrogation.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam passed the order after hearing a seven-day remand petition filed by Inspector Firoz Uddin, investigation officer of the case.
The investigator sought further remand to establish the motive behind the murder, recover evidence, identify the alleged mastermind and accomplices, verify the suspect's statements against CCTV footage and witness accounts and determine how the killing was carried out.
Deep was earlier remanded for four days on October 31 and another three days on November 3.
According to the case statement, Tahsif went out of his home on the evening of October 27 after receiving a call from Deep, a junior acquaintance. At around 1:35am, a voice message was sent from his Messenger account to his mother, saying he was on his way home. However, he never returned.
His body was recovered from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Uttarkhan on October 28. Following a post-mortem examination, police handed over the body to his family on October 29, and he was buried at Uttara Sector 12 cemetery.
Tahsif's father, KM Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case against unidentified persons with Uttarkhan Police Station on October 30. Police later showed Deep arrested in the case as a suspect.
Another accused, Jerika Tasnim Disha, was also remanded for four days on November 1 and a further three days on November 4. She is currently in police remand.
