A 24-member contingent of the Bangladesh Navy left Dhaka for Qatar early Thursday to serve in the Qatar Coast and Border Security Department (QCBSD) for a three-year term.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the naval personnel will perform their assigned duties under the relevant authorities of the QCBSD, which operates under Qatar's Ministry of Interior.
Before their departure, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Rear Admiral Golam Sadeq briefed the personnel, urging them to maintain professionalism, discipline and dedication while carrying out their responsibilities in Qatar.
The Bangladesh Navy has been regularly deploying personnel to the QCBSD since 2012. Over the years, Bangladeshi naval personnel have earned the trust and appreciation of Qatari authorities through their skills, professionalism and commitment to duty.
The newly deployed personnel will perform various maritime security responsibilities, including safeguarding Qatar's coastal and maritime borders, conducting maritime patrols, carrying out search and rescue operations, and preventing smuggling.
Their deployment is expected to strengthen Qatar's maritime security management and further consolidate defence and security cooperation between Bangladesh and Qatar. It will also create opportunities for professional knowledge and experience sharing between the two countries.
The deployment will also help showcase the Bangladesh Navy's professionalism internationally while contributing to the country's remittance inflow.
