MPO teachers likely to get revised pay from Dec

Teachers and employees of private schools and colleges under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme may start receiving salaries and allowances under the new pay scale from December, subject to final government approval.

The Ministry of Education has sought an additional allocation of Tk 3,267.90 crore from the Finance Division to implement the new structure, with officials expecting formal approval within November.

Ministry sources said verbal consent had already been given for the proposed allocation following discussions between Abdul Khaleque, Senior Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, and Finance Secretary Khayeruzzaman Majumder during the former's visit to China.

An education ministry official said efforts were underway to ensure implementation from December. If the process is delayed, however, teachers and employees may begin receiving salaries under the new scale from January.

According to calculations by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), Tk 2,531.53 crore will be needed for school-level teachers and employees and Tk 736.36 crore for their college-level counterparts. The estimates cover salaries and allowances up to May next year, including six months of arrears.

The DSHE sent the estimate to the Secondary and Higher Education Division on November 1, which forwarded a request for the additional funds to the Finance Division the same day.
