Students of Government College of Applied Human Science (GCAHS), formerly Home Economics College, blocked the road in front of the institution on Friday, demanding the resignation of the principal and an investigation into alleged police assaults on students.
The protesters issued a 72-hour ultimatum for the authorities to address their demands, warning that they would continue their movement until they were met.
The demonstration began at 8 am on Friday. Students chanted slogans demanding answers over police presence on campus and injuries sustained by their fellow students.
The protesters demanded the resignation of Principal Professor Meherunnessa, saying classes and examinations would remain suspended until she submitted a written resignation. They also demanded that she be barred from entering the campus.
Their other major demand was a fair investigation into allegations that police entered the college and residential halls late at night, baton-charged students and assaulted female residents. They called for those responsible to be brought to justice and the investigation's progress to be made public within 72 hours.
The latest demonstration followed a protest that began at around 10:30am on Thursday, when students gathered outside the principal's office and later locked it, leaving her confined inside. Police arrived at around 11:30pm and rescued her after nearly 13 hours. More than a hundred students continued their protest outside the college until around 2:30am.
