Activists of the banned Jubo League reportedly staged a surprise torchlight procession in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira on Friday night, triggering discussion in local political circles.
The procession reportedly began around November 6 from Rahatullah's intersection in the Bhurulia area. Within minutes, the participants marched along several local roads before dispersing.
Videos circulating on Facebook showed the participants wearing masks and carrying burning torches. Jubo League activists reportedly shared footage of the procession on social media.
The incident has drawn attention from local political leaders.
Shyamnagar Upazila BNP Convener Solaiman Kabir said the procession had come to his attention, describing it as a clandestine march by activists of the banned organisation.
He said the administration had been warned in advance about the possibility of such activities, making the incident disappointing. He added that he would discuss the matter with party leaders.
Shyamnagar Police Station OC Safiul Islam Patwary said he was currently on leave but had heard about the procession.
He cautioned that old videos are sometimes uploaded to social media as new incidents. If the footage is confirmed to be recent, police will take legal action, he said.
