Housing and Public Works State Minister Ahmed Sohel Manjur has said his family also faced political persecution during the previous government, alleging that his father was jailed, his mother was made an officer on special duty (OSD), and his uncle was imprisoned.

“My father had to serve jail time unjustly, my mother was made OSD, and my uncle was also imprisoned. All our businesses were destroyed. We later started our businesses again,” he said.

He made the remarks on Saturday (November 7) while addressing a discussion meeting marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day 2026 at the Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium on Saturday afternoon. The district administration organised the programme.

Referring to political persecution, the state minister said the families of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, former prime minister Khaleda Zia and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman had faced persecution. He also mentioned his own family among those affected in the southern region.

Recalling his political journey, Sohel Manjur said he had remained with the party and continued working for it. He said his nomination in 2026 led to his election as a member of parliament, after which the prime minister appointed him state minister.

Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Md Golam Rabbani presided over the programme. Police Superintendent Muhammad Talebur Rahman, district BNP Member Secretary Saidul Islam Kismat and Government Suhrawardy College Vice-Principal Professor Muhammad Shaheen Reza attended as special guests.

Speakers highlighted the historical background and significance of National Revolution and Solidarity Day. The programme also featured prize distribution among competition winners and a cultural event.
