The main objective of Bangladesh Bank's ‘Udyog’ programme is to identify promising young entrepreneurs at the grassroots level and provide them with financing and necessary guidance to implement their business plans. Through the initiative, the central bank aims to create employment opportunities, promote self-reliance among young people and encourage new entrepreneurship in the national economy.
In the first phase, applications were invited and potential entrepreneurs identified in eight districts. Following a strong response, the search for entrepreneurs and application process began in the remaining 56 districts on November 1. Interested young entrepreneurs from these districts can apply until November 30.
Under the programme, each selected entrepreneur will be eligible for financial assistance of up to Tk 20 lakh, comprising a loan of up to Tk 10 lakh and a grant of the remaining Tk 10 lakh.
Bangladesh Bank expects the initiative to provide promising grassroots entrepreneurs with easier access to financing, encourage new businesses and generate employment, thereby boosting economic activities across the country.
