The latest film in Hollywood’s popular superhero franchise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, has achieved remarkable box-office success, generating huge revenue for production company Sony. The film’s success has contributed to significant growth in Sony’s revenue and operating profit in the September quarter of 2026.

Sony Pictures Entertainment’s revenue rose 37 per cent year-on-year to $3.23 billion in the September quarter. During the period, the company posted an operating profit of $581 million, marking a 527 per cent increase from the same period last year. This was the highest quarterly operating profit in the company’s history.

The biggest contributor to this growth was Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Released on July 31 this year, the film has grossed $2.52 billion worldwide, equivalent to approximately Tk 31,333 crore.

As a result, the film has secured the third position among the highest-grossing movies of all time. Only Avatar and Avengers: Endgame rank ahead of it.

Starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, the film follows the story of Peter Parker and MJ. According to Tom Rothman, chairman and chief executive of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, the film is not merely a superhero movie but also a story about human emotions and relationships.

Sony Pictures’ theatrical exhibition segment generated $1.28 billion in revenue during the September quarter, 11 times higher than the same period last year. Alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the success of Insidious: Out of the Further and Resident Evil also contributed to the growth. However, revenue from the television production segment fell 31 per cent to $483 million.

Overall, Sony recorded total revenue of 34.29 trillion yen in the second quarter of the 2026 fiscal year, up 10 per cent from the previous year. During the same period, the company’s net profit increased 44 per cent to 4.5 trillion yen.
