Body parts of seven to eight suspected militants were found during a raid on a Nasirpur militant den in Moulvibazar Sadar says the counter-terrorism unit chief.
Monirul Islam, chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said at a media briefing on the spot, "We saw body parts of at least seven to eight persons lying scattered inside the hideout."
The "militants" might have blown themselves up inside the hideout on Wednesday afternoon after having failed to flee the den, Monirul said. He said women and children were among those killed in the "suicide explosion."
The blasts might have taken place at the start of the operation on Wednesday because the bodies were giving off putrid stench, said  Monirul. The suspects, who died in the suicide blasts, were members of Neo-Jama'atul Islam Mujahideen(JMB), he said.
Monirul said the law enforcers asked the alleged militants to surrender before the start of the operation, using a PA system and megaphone, but the "militants" did not respond.
"A huge explosion took place at the time, smashing the doors and windows of the house. Later, the CTTC unit began the drive, but the team suspended the drive as night descended," said Monirul.
