At least 50 teachers and owners of two dozen coaching centers involved in question paper leakage in the country are now under intelligence surveillance, said an intelligence source.
The Detective Branch (DB) of police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has recently investigated the incidents of question paper leakage.
The DB police found involvement of at least 50 teachers of 12 well-known schools in the leakage.
The intelligences agency has prepared a list of 50 teachers and owners of two dozen coaching centers involved in the question paper leakage in the country, intelligence sources said.
Abdul Baten, Joint Commissioner of the DB, said police had arrested several gangs involved in the leakage of SSC and HSC examination papers on different social media.
There are some other gangs active too. Police have kept them under surveillance. If found guilty police will arrest them.
The DB police interrogated an Upazila Education Office at Saver on Tuesday night. According to police, Education Officer Shaririar Mandis leaked out the question paper one hour before it reached the exam centre.
Mandis first took the photograph of the question paper and then sent it to a school principal and owners of some coaching centres.
When contacted, Shaririar Mandis, however, said he was not interrogated by DB police rather police discussed with him about the exam system.
DB police had information that a section of officials of the Bangladesh Government Press, some vested officials of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, some teachers and coaching center owners are involved in the question paper leakage.
They also developed different mobile phone applications for leaking questions and later removed it from the internet to evade detection by law enforcement agencies, sources added.
Abdul Baten also said: "The group used Facebook pages to distribute leaked questions among eager students in exchange of money. "They also used messaging services like Facebook messenger, WhatsApp, Viber, Line, WeChat and Imo for the distribution.
"They charged Tk500 to Tk25, 000 for the leaked questions and the payments were made mostly through bKash and other mobile banking services after exams were completed. The payments varied on the number of questions that matched with the real exam question paper."
The DB police have arrested two people in connection with selling students fake question papers of public exams claiming that those had been leaked on April 02.
The law enforcers said the two were of a gang that used the social media to sell fake question papers and they were administrators of Facebook groups SSC, HSC/2017 and HSC2k17.   Shahidul Islam, 18, and Golam Sarwar Sajid, 18, were arrested at Moghbazar,
Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police have arrested eight persons on charge of leaking SSC question papers on March 03. They were arrested from Dhaka, Chapainawabganj, Mymensingh, Jamalpur and Kushtia.
The arrestees are Rafiqul Islam, a teacher of Kamalapur Sher-e-Bangla Railway School, Raman Hossain alias Mahir, Rajib Ali, Ariful Islam alias Arif, Auntar, Tarikuzzaman Himel alias Abir, Liton Mia and Jahirul Islam Shuvo.
"Those who were connected to the Facebook page received MCQ questions with answers 15 to 20 minutes before the examination commenced in exchange for Tk1, 000-5, 000," he said.
Shuvo negotiated with guardians of the examinees and sold question papers to them.
A DB police official said the syndicate allured examinees to connect with its Facebook by opening fake IDs.
Question paper leaks ahead of different levels of examinations have become a growing concern for the Bangladesh government as it was hampering the education system and putting the Education Ministry under fire for the last few years.
Earlier, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said a section of teachers responsible for the leak of question papers.
The question is being leaked over Facebook just after handing it over to teachers on the exam day, the education minister said. "When the authorities safely hand over the question papers to the teachers concerned those are being shared over social media," the minister alleged.
