RANGPUR, July 10: The authority of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) will soon announce a mega development budget amounting to about Taka 1,012.78 crore for the 2017-2018 fiscal.
The information was disclosed at a pre-budget discussion on draft budget of RpCC for the 2017-2018 fiscal in the conference room of the city corporation here on Sunday afternoon.
According to a press release issued yesterday, Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu presided over the discussion followed by monthly meeting participated by City Councillors and officials of RpCC.
The proposed draft budget for the next fiscal is higher by over Taka 211.54 crore than that of the annual development budget of Taka 801.24 crore for the just-ended 2016-2017 fiscal.
Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad, City Councillors Tauhidul Islam, Jahangir Alam Tota, Golam Kabir Kajol, Golam Sarwar Mirja, Haradhan Roy, Sultan Ahmed, Sekendar Ali, Superintending Engineer Emdad Hossain, Chief Accounts Officer Abdul Hakim Mian, among others, took part in the draft budget discussion.
The city mayor will soon announce the budget in an open ceremony at city corporation conference room.
The mayor narrated the massive infrastructural and other development works already done in the city since assuming responsibility at his office on February 19 in 2013 as the maiden elected Mayor.
Expenditure of the upcoming proposed development budget would be met from revenue earnings of RpCC and development assistance from the government, different donor agencies and foreign- assisted projects. "The proposed budget will put special emphasis on the health, water supply, drainage and sewerage systems, health care, supply of medicines, sanitation, tree plantation, adaptation to climate change impacts and various other sectors," the mayor said.
