Relief materials distributed to flood victims

Relief materials were distributed to flood victims in three districts- Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha and Natore, in two days.
LALMONIRHAT: RDRS Bangladesh, a non-government organisation, distributed relief materials to 300 flood-hit families here on Tuesday morning.
Each family got 10 kg rice, 1 kg pulse, 1 kg oil and other food items on Borobari union parishad premises under Sadar upazila.
Assistant Commissioner of Deputy Commissioner's office Anisur Rahman distributed the relief as chief guest.
Among others, Programme Manager (Field Coordination) of RDRS Bangladesh Maidul Islam and Senior Programme Manager (Microfinance) Nazrul Islam were also present during the distribution.
GAIBANDHA: ICCO Cooperation, a Netherlands based international organisation, along with its local partner NGO Gana Unnanyan Kendra (GUK), started relief distribution to 3,300 flood victims of the district on Monday.
According to sources, chars and river basin areas of four upazilas including Sadar and Sundarganj were submerged as the Brahmaputra and Teesta Rivers were flowing above their respective danger mark.
As a result, the flood-hit people lost their homes, their crops, as well as with their domestic animals and poultry birds.  In other words, their sorrows and sufferings know no bounds.
To mitigate their sufferings, the ICCO Cooperation whose mission is to eradicate poverty and injustice, took a decision to distribute relief materials to the flood hit people of the district and accordingly, it started the distribution.
In this connection, a relief distribution ceremony was also held at Kunderpara Char under Kamarjani union in Sadar upazila in the afternoon with Chief Executive of GUK M. Abdus Salam in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the function as chief guest and Head (Admin & Human Resources) of ICCO Cooperation Martin Mondal, and Head of Programme of ICCO Cooperation Abul Kalam Azad, were present at the event as special guests.
GUK Director Abu Sayem Rishat, Nutrition Expert of ICCO Cooperation Maniruzzaman Mukul, and local UP Chairman Abdus Salam Zakir, also spoke at the function, among others.
Later, DC Gautam Chandra Pal formally inaugurated the distribution of relief packets to 900 flood victims of Kamarjani union under Sadar upazila.
Each of the packets contains 14 relief items including 10 kg of rice, 1 kg of lentil, 1 litre of soya bean oil, 2 kg of flattened rice, 2 kg of potato, 1 kg of sugar, and 1 kg of vermicelli.
NATORE: Distribution of relief materials among flood-hit people is going on in the affected areas of Singra upazila of the district.
About one lakh people have been affected at Singra upazila by the recent flood. Considering the situation, people from different quarters have come forward to help the affected people beside the government's step.
Local lawmaker and Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak visits the affected areas and talks to the helpless people regularly.
On Sunday, the minister distributed rice to 1,600 people at Singra municipal area.
Earlier on Friday, he visited the affected people at Sherkole and Lalore unions and distributed relief materials. At that time, about 1,000 flood-affected people were given relief materials which included 10 kg rice, one kg pulse, 2 kg fried rice, one kg molasses, 10 packets of oral saline and necessary medicines.
At that time, Chairman of Natore Zila Parishad Advocate Sajedur Rahman Khan, Police Super Biplob Bijoy Talukder, political leaders and other government officials accompanied the minister.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, cooked food for the affected people has been giving three times in a day at 26 shelter centres under Singra upazila for the last seven days.
He further said, these people will get relief materials and food until they return home. Nobody will die without food, he assured.
