Bangladesh wants United Nations intervention for resolving Rohingya issue and sending back the Myanmar refugees, who fled the country in the wake of violence in the bordering state of Rakhine.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made this call during a meeting with outgoing UN Resident Coordinator Robert Watkins at her office on Wednesday.
Although the European Union, UN and some humanitarian organizations have asked the Myanmar government to stop violence and ensure safety and security of innocent Rohingyas, fresh Rohingya influx is increasing in the bordering areas of Bangladesh.
Myanmar did not respond to Bangladesh's calls or anyone's call to take measure to stop killing and raping the innocentRohingya people and take them back from Bangladesh.
"New influx is unbearable additional burden on Bangladesh which has been hosting around five hundred thousand of Myanmar nationals," AHM Mahmood Ali, Foreign Minister said.
"Bangladesh should take up the Rohingya issue in upcoming BIMSTEC meeting not only that it should take up the issue all UN bodies and international humanitarian organizations for mounting huge international pressure on Myanmar government," former Foreign Minister Abul Hossain told the Daily Observer.
He said Bangladesh also watching the India-Myanmar leaders meeting.
Indian media reports, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that India shared Myanmar's concern about "extremist violence" in its Rakhine state, where a security force operation against Rohingya Muslims has sent about 125,000 people fleeing to Bangladesh. He said India and Myanmar had similar security interests in the region."
"We share your concerns about extremist violence in Rakhine state and specially the violence against security forces and how innocent lives have been affected," Times of India quoting Modi's speech said.
Myanmar officials blame Rohingya militants for the burning of homes and civilian deaths. But rights monitors and Rohingya fleeing to neighbouring Bangladesh say the Myanmar army is trying to force them out with a campaign of arson and killings. So to resolve the issue, the world needs to see a proper investigation and Myanmar government should allow the investigator or implement the Annan report to establish a peaceful South Asia, former ambassador Zamir said.
