Man arrested with 10 gold bars at Hili

DINAJPUR, Mar 8: An alleged smuggler was arrested on Wednesday along with 10 gold bars at Hili border in Hakimpur Upazila of the district.

Members of 20 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested Mehedi Hasan, 34, with the gold bars.

Arrested Mehedi is the son of Taraf Haji, a resident of Uttar Basudebpur Village in Hakimpur Upazila.

Later on, police produced Mehedi Hasan before the Dinajpur court.

20 BGBs Deputy Commander Major Afique Hasan said the battalions commander learnt that gold would be smuggled out to India through the Hili border.

On information, Mongla Camp Commander Nayek Faruk Hossain was directed to conduct a drive.

Accordingly, a team of BGB personnel led by Nayek Faruk Hossain conducted an operation on the road near the Satkuri Rail Gate of the border, and detained Mehedi Hasan with a motorcycle.

Then searching the motorcycle and him, the BGB personnel seized 10 gold bars weighing 1.050 kg worth about Tk 1,12,40,810.

A case was filed with the PS concerned in this regard, the BGB official added.
