Road mishaps claim seven lives in six districts

Seven people were killed and at least six others injured in separate road accidents in six districts - Shariatpur, Manikganj, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Narsingdi and Dinajpur.

SHARIATPUR: A minor girl was killed after being hit by an auto-rickshaw in the district on Monday.

The accident took place in Char Mahishkhali Village of Arshinagar under Sakhipur PS in the afternoon.

Deceased Shoaiba, 6, was the daughter of Alhaj Sardar of that village.

Police and local sources said that an auto-rickshaw hit Shoaiba in front of her house in the afternoon, leaving her critically injured.

She was then rescued and taken to Bhedarganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sakhipur Police Station (PS) Obaidul Haque confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken if any written complaint is received from the deceased's family.

MANIKGANJ: A woman was killed and her husband injured after being hit by a truck at Golra on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in the district on Sunday evening.

The deceased was identified as Nazma Begum, 34, wife of Faruk Hossain, a resident of Goaria Village under Saturia Upazila inthe district. 

It was known that Faruk and Nazma left Manikganj on a motorcycle for their home in the evening. When they reached Golra, a truck coming from behind hit their motorcycle. Nazma died on the spot and her husband Faruk was seriously injured at that time.

Being informed, police recovered the body.

Injured Faruk was rescued and taken to Manikganj Sadar Hospital.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Golra Highway PS Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident.

GAZIPUR: A school teacher was killed after a bus hit his motorcycle in Kapasia Upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam Faruk, the headmaster of Panchua High School in the upazila.

It was known that a Kishoreganj-bound bus of 'Ananya Paribahan' coming from Dhaka hit Saiful's motorcycle in the afternoon, leaving him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Kapasia PS SI Abdul Momin confirmed the incident. 

SONARGAON, NARAYANGANJ: A woman was killed and five others were injured in a head-on collision between an ambulance and a three-wheeler in Sonargaon Upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.

The accident took place in Meghna Bridge area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the upazila. 

The deceased was identified as Asia Khatun, 60. The details of the deceased could not be known immediately. 

Local sources said that a three-wheeler was heading towards Gozaria in the afternoon. On the way, it collided head-on with an ambulance in Meghna Bridge area, which left Asia dead on the spot and five others injured.

Being informed, police recovered the body.

Kanchpur Highway PS OC Kazi Wahid Morshed confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.

NARSINGDI: A man was killed in a road accident in Belabo Upazila of the district on Sunday. 
The accident took place in Bateswar Village of the upazila at noon.

The deceased was identified as Foysal Mulla Sujon, 31, son of Faruk Mulla, a resident of Dhanua Village under Shibpur Upazila in the district. He was upazila assistant deputy engineer.

Quoting locals, Belabo PS OC Mir Mahabubur Rahman said that a tractor hit a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction in Bateswar area at noon, leaving motorcyclist Sujon dead on the spot.

However, legal action would be taken in this regard, the OC added.

CHIRIRBANDAR, DINAJPUR: Two friends were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a motorcycle in Chirirbandar Upazila of the district on Saturday night.

The accident took place in Uchitpur Bazar area on the Dinajpur-Phulbari highway of the upazila at around 11:30 pm. 
The deceased were identified as Ziarul Rahman, 25, son of late Yaqub Ali, a resident of Khod Madahbpur Mistri Para, and Abdullah, 24, son of Abed Munshi, a resident of Dailar Mor area under Sadar Upazila in the district. 

 It was known that the two were returning from one of their friends' house riding on a motorcycle. When they arrived at Uchitpur Bazar on the highway, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit their motorcycle, leaving the duo dead on the spot. 

On information, police recovered the bodies.

Dinajpur Kotwali PS OC Motiar Rahman confirmed the incident.
