54th Independence Day Celebrated In Districts

Pledge to establish non-communal, prosperous BD  renewed

The 54th Independence and National Day was celebrated in all districts of the country on Tuesday, with a renewed pledge to establish a non-communal prosperous and developed Bangladesh in the spirit of the Liberation War.

On March 26 in 1971, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared Bangladeshs independence following the barbaric crack-down on unarmed and sleeping population of the country by the Pakistani occupation forces on March 25 night.
To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in districts including Barishal, Bogura, Gopalganj, Joypurhat, Khulna, Kishoreganj, Laxmipur, Meherpur, Pirojpur, Rajbari, Rangamati, Sirajganj and Tangail.
The programmes included heralded 31-gun salutes in the early hours, singing national anthem, placing wreaths on the monument, grand march, holding discussion meetings, arranging various competitions for children, and screening documentaries.

The national flags were hoisted atop all the public and private buildings in the districts in the morning.

Besides, special prayers were offered at different religious institutions and improved diet was served to jails, hospitals and orphanages in the districts.

BARISHAL: In this connection, wreaths were placed on the Martyred Freedom Fighters (FFs) Memorial Monument on the deputy commissioner (DC) office premises and at Trish Godown Mass Graveyard Monument in the city at dawn.
Barishal Divisional Commissioner Md Shawkat Ali, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Barishal Range Police Md Jamil Hasan, Barishal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Jihadul Kabir, BPM, DC Shahidul Islam, and Superintend of Police (SP) Wahidul Islam, different political parties, government and non-government offices, and various socio-political organizations placed wreaths on the monuments.
Barishal City Corporation (BCC) Mayor Abul Khayer Abdullah Khokon Serniabat also placed a wreath on the monument.
A march past was held at Bangabandhu Udyan in the city at around 8 am, from where Divisional Commissioner Md Shawkat Ali took salute.
Meanwhile, Zilla Parishad Chairman and Barishal City Unit Awami League (AL) President Advocate AKM Jahangir Hossain, and its GS and former mayor of BCC Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah placed wreaths on the Monument 71 at Wapda Colony Torture Cell on the bank of the Kirtankhola River.    
At around 11 am, City Unit of BNP also paid floral tribute to the FFs there.  
Earlier, a discussion meeting was held at BNP party office and from there, a rally was brought out and paraded the main streets of the city.
BOGURA: On this occasion, wreaths were placed on the Muktir Fulbari monument in the town at around 8 am.
Md. Mujibur Rahman Majnu, MP, Ragebul Ahsan Ripu, MP, the district administration, District Police, District AL, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Zilla Parishad, and various government, non-government and autonomous offices, and different political parties and socio-cultural organizations placed wreaths on the monument in phases.
A march past was held at Shaheed Chandu Stadium, from where DC Md Saiful Islam and SP Sudip Kumar Chakrabarty took salute.  
The district administration organized a discussion meeting on the historic leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the countrys development was held at Mujib Mancha in the town at around 12:30 pm.
Mujibur Rahman Majnu, MP, from Bogura-5 Constituency, was present as the chief guest while Bogura DC Md Saiful Islam presided over the meeting.
Ragebul Ahsan Ripu, MP, from Bogura-6 Constituency, was the kea speaker at the programme.
SP Sudip Kumar Chakrabarty, Zilla Parishad Chairman Dr Moqbul Hossain, District Civil Surgeon (CS) Mohammad Shafiul Azam, and Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Abu Sufian Sadiq were present there as special guests.
Besides, the FFs were accorded a reception at Bogura Zilla School auditorium at around 3:30 pm.
Later on, an Iftar mahfil was arranged there.
GOPALGANJ: To mark the Day, DC Kazi Mahbubul Alam and SP Al Belly Afifa placed wreaths on the grave of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara at 12:01 am.
Then, the Zilla Parishad, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, District and Upazila AL, Chhatra League, Gopalganj and Tungipara municipalities, LGED, Public Works Department, various socio-cultural organizations, and people from all walks of life paid tribute to Bangabandhu there in phases.
After that, a munajat was performed there seeking the eternal peace for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his martyred family members.
Besides, different programmes were organized in the district marking the Day.
JOYPURHAT: Wreaths were placed on the Liberation War Monument located at Shaheed Dr Abul Kashem Maidan in the town at dawn on the occasion of the Day.
The district administration led by DC Salehin Tanvir, District Police led by SP Mohammad Nure Alam, District AL led by its Arifur Rahman Rocket, and District Muktijoddha Sangsad led by FF Amzad Hossain placed wreaths on the monument.
After hoisting of the national flag and singing national anthem, a march past was held at District Stadium in the town.
Later on, the FFs were accorded a reception there.
Besides, essay writing, recitation and art competitions for children were also arranged at District Shishu Academy.
KHULNA: The district administration organized different programmes marking the Day.
The Days programme began with heralding of 31-gun salute at dawn on the Khulna Police Line premises.
Wreaths were then placed by the people of all walks of life at the Gallyamary Martyrdom Memorial.
Khulna City and District Muktijoddha Sangsad, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Khulna Divisional Commissioner, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Khulna Range DIG of Police, the district administration, Zilla Parishad, City and District units of AL, educational institutions and socio-cultural organisations also placed wreaths at the memorial at dawn.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Helal Mahmud Sharif hoisted national flag at Khulna District Stadium. A colourful parade was held by the different government organizations including FFs, Police, Ansar and VDP, BNCC, Fire Service and Civil Defence, Bangladesh Scout, Rover Scout and Girls Guide.
Later on, children gathering, prize distribution and cultural function were held.
Different educational institutions including Khulna University, Khulna University and Engineering Technology, and Khulna Agriculture University organized various programmes marking the Day.
Documentaries and films on the Liberation War were screened at different cinema halls and open places while rare photographs and books based on the Liberation War were exhibited at Umesh Chandra Public Library.
A discussion meeting on life sketch of Bangabandhu and reception programme for the FFs and family members of the martyred during the Liberation War was also held at the Shilpakala Academy.
State-run Khulna Betar broadcasted special programmes while the local newspapers brought out special supplements on the occasion.
Khulna Divisional Information Office screened a documentary film show on the life of Bangabandhu and the Liberation War at Shaheed Hadis Park and other important places in the city. Divisional Museum and Genocide Museum were open for all from dawn to dusk on the Day.
A naval ship was open for all until evening at BIWTA Rocket Ghat on the bank of the Bhairab River.
Meanwhile, Khulna City and District AL organized different programmes marking the Day.
The programmes included hoisting of national flags atop the party office, placing wreaths at the Gallyamari Monument, holding discussion meetings and arranging doa mahfil at the party office.
City AL President Talukder Abdul Khaleque presided over the discussion.
Besides, District AL also organized a discussion meeting with its President Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid in the chair.
KISHOREGANJ: At around 8 am, a colourful march past with the participation of students of different educational institutions was held at Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Stadium in the town on the occasion of the Day.
A large number of people attended the function and watched the march past.
In this connection, District AL organized different programmes.
After hoisting of the national flag atop the party office, wreaths were also placed on the portrait of Bangabandhu there.
Later on, a discussion meeting and reception for the FFs was held in the hall room of District Shilpakala Academy in the town.
Kishoreganj DC Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad presided over the meeting.
District AL President Advocate Md Zillur Rahman, its General Secretary (GS) Advocate MA Afzal, SP Mohammad Russel Sheikh, Kishoreganj Municipality Mayor Md Parvez Mia, Additional DC (ADC) (General) Rubel Mahmud, and former commander of District Muktojoddha Sangsad Md Asad Ullah were present at the discussion.
LAXMIPUR: The Days programme began with heralding of 31-gun salutes on Laxmipur Collectorate Bhaban premises in the town at 5:59 am.
Wreaths were then placed on the Martyred Monument in the town built in remembrance of the martyred FFs.
District AL President Golam Faruque Pinku, MP, from Laxmipur-3 Constituency, its GS Advocate Nuruddin Chowdhury Noyon, MP, from Laxmipur-2 Constituency, DC Suraiya Jahan, SP Tareq Bin Rashid, Zilla Parishad Chairman FF Md Shahjahan, Principal of Laxmipur Government College Mahbubur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman AKM Salahuddin Tipu, Laxmipur Municipality Mayor Mozammel Haider Masum, CS Dr Ahmed Kabir, Laxmipur Press Club, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Arifur Rahman, Deputy Director (DD) of District Department of Agricultural Extension Dr Jakir Hossain, Social Services Department DD Nurul Islam Patwari and FF Mahbubul Alam, among others, also placed wreaths on the monument in phases.
Later on, a discussion meeting on the significance of the Day was held at Mukta Mancha in front of the DC office in the town.
Laxmipur DC Suraiya Jahan presided over the meeting.
Meanwhile, Dr Anwar Khan, MP, from Laxmipur-1 Constituency, and Md Abdullah Al Mamun, MP, from Laxmipur-4 Constituency, also placed wreaths on the monuments in Ramganj and Ramgati upazilas respectively.
MEHERPUR: The Days programme began with heralding of 31-gun salutes on Meherpur Circuit House premises in the town at dawn.
Wreaths were placed then on the Liberation War Monument in the town in the morning.
Deputy Secretary of Public Administration Ministry Shamim Hasan placed a wreath on the monument at first on behalf of Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain, MP, from Meherpur-1 Constituency.
A grand march past comprising FFs, police, civil defence, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, rover, boys scout, girls guide, students from various educational institutions and inmates of the public orphanage was held at the local stadium, where Deputy Secretary Shamim Hasan, DC ASM Nazmul Haque and SP took salute.
Later on, a discussion meeting and a grand reception for the FFs was held at District Shilpakala Academy in the town.
Besides, a cultural function was also arranged there.
Similar programmes were also organized in Gangni and Mujibnagar upazilas of the district.
PIROJPUR: To mark the Day, wreaths were placed on the Martyred Monument at Bhagirathi Chattar in the town.
Pirojpur DC Mohammad Jahedur Rahman, SP Muhammad Shariful Islam, PPM, Chairman of the Zilla Parishad Salma Rahman,  Advocate Kanai Lal Biswas, and District AL, Mayor of Pirojpur Municipality, Pirojpur  Press Club, District BNP, Ladies Club, District Mahila Parishad, Association of Development Agencies of Bangladesh (ADAB),  various academic institutions, Pirojpur  Bar Association, CPB, Juba league, Chhatra League, Lawyers Association, NGOs, Socio-cultural organizations, professional bodies, Pirojpur Chamber of Commerce and Industries, government offices, and District Shilpakala Academy also placed wreaths on the monument there in phases.
After hoisting of the national flag and singing national anthem, a march past was held at District Stadium in the town.
Later on, the FFs were accorded a reception there.

RAJBARI: In this connection, the district administration and District AL organized different programmes in the town.
A march past was held at Bir Muktijoddah Shaheed Khushi Railway Maidan in the town.
Minister for Railways Md Zillul Hakim, MP, from Rajbari-2 Constituency, attended the programme as the chief guest.
Rajbari DC Abu Kaiser Khan, SP GM Abul Kalam Azad, and ADC Suborna Rani Shaha, among others, were also present at the programme.
Meanwhile, District AL brought out a colourful rally from the party office, which paraded the main streets of the town.
After that, District AL along with various socio-cultural organizations placed wreaths on the Martyred FFs Memorial located on Rajbari Rail Gate premises in the town.
RANGAMATI: The district administration organized different programmes in the town on the occasion of the Day.
The Days programme began with 31-gun salutes in the town at around 6:05 am.
Rangamati DC Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan placed wreaths on the mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and on the martyred monument in the town at dawn.
Then, Chattogram Hill Tracts Development Board Chairman Supradip Chakma, SP Mir Abu Tauhid, Acting Chairman of the Zilla Parishad Remliana Pangkhoya, District CS Dr Nihar Ranjan Nandi, and Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Shahiduzzaman, among others, also paid floral tribute to Bangabandhu and the martyred of the Liberation War.
SIRAJGANJ: To mark the Day, the district administration, different political parties and socio-cultural organizations arranged various programmes in the town.
Dr Jannat Ara Henry, MP, and Sirajganj DC Mir Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman inaugurated the Days programme through placing wreaths on the Victory Monument in the town at dawn.
Then, SP Arifur Rahman Mandal, government offices, different political parties and socio-cultural organizations also placed wreaths there in phases.
TANGAIL: The Days programme began with heralding of 31-gun salutes at the Martyred FFs Monument on the DC office premises in the town.
Tangail DC Kaisarul Islam placed a wreath on the monument at first on behalf of the state.
At around 8:30 am, a march past was held at Tangail Stadium, where Police, Ansar-VDP, Fire Service and Civil Defence and BNCC participated.
At around 10 am, the FFs and the family members of the martyred FFs were accorded a reception and a discussion meeting was held at the Martyred Memorial Municipal Park in the town.
DC Md Kaisarul Islam presided over the programme.
Sanwar Hossain, MP, SP Sarker Mohammad Kaisar, District AL Vice-President FF Khandaker Ashrafuzzaman, Tangail Municipality Mayor SM Sirajul Haque Alamgir, CS Dr Minhaz Uddin Mia, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahjahan Ansari, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hasan Bin Mohammad Ali, and Tangail Press Club President Advocate Jafar Ahmed, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
