Tea growers get modern pruning machines in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, July 30: A meeting was held on Monday at the office of Small Tea Garden Growers and Tea Traders Association of Bangladesh with the aim of encouraging the use of modern tools in the tea cultivation.

The meeting was organized by the association in collaboration with Solidarity Network Asia, Bangladesh, a non-governmental development organization working for the development of the tea industry. 

Amir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tea Board Regional Office spoke at the meeting. The meeting was chaired by the association President Amirul Haque Khokon.

Speakers called upon the owners of tea factories to stop selling tea in the black market by evading tax. Pay the fixed price of raw tea leaves, stop unreasonable deductions and work collectively to increase the quality of tea, they added.

Mahmudul Haque, coordinator of Solidarity Network Asia, Bangladesh, said, the organization is working in Panchagarh to improve the quality of tea leaves; for this, five modern pruning machines were provided to the association for free.

 He expressed the hope, the organization will do more work for the development of Panchagarh tea farmers.

Representatives of tea growers, tea garden owners, factory owners, bidders, broker houses, and warehouse owners were present at the meeting.

 At the end, five modern pruning machines were handed over to the association.
