157 AL men sued in 2 districts 

 
Three cases were filed against a total of 157 supporters of Awami League (AL) including former mayors of Rajshahi and Khulna city corporations AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Talukder Abdul Khaleque on Wednesday on the charges of vandalism, arson and looting of houses and offices of BNP leaders in two districts - Rajshahi and Khulna. 

RAJSHAHI: Two cases against former mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) AHM Khairuzzaman Liton among 82 leaders and workers of AL have been lodged on charge of vandalising the house and election camp of BNP leader and former RCC mayor Mijanur Rahman Minu in 2018.

Minu's residence caretaker Muhammad Alauddin and a teacher of Rajshahi University Professor Awrangazeb Muhammad Abdur Rahman lodged the cases with Chandrima Police Station (PS) mentioning names of 22 people including Liton on Wednesday.

In his petition, Muhammad Alauddin pointed out that the accused attacked the residence of Minu, vandalised it massively and looted valuables at around 10:45 pm on December 10, 2018. They also looted Tk 20,000 in cash at gunpoint.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandrima PS Ismail Hossain said the names of 22 people were mentioned in the two cases bringing allegations of attempting to murder, snatching and creating panic through blasting bombs. Khairuzzaman Liton has been mentioned as kingpin.

The OC also said that legal action will be taken against all the accused after investigation.

KHULNA: A case was filed against 75 AL men including former mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque, and former parliament members Begum Monnujan Sufian and SM Kamal Hossain with Khalishpur PS on the charge of vandalism, arson and looting of Ward No. 7 BNP office.

Joint Convener of the city's Ward No. 7 BNP unit Ilias Hossain filed the case on Wednesday as complainant against 75 named and 50 to 60 unnamed AL men, said Khalishpur PS OC Md Anwar Hossain.

According to the case statement, over 100 members of AL, Juba League, Bangladesh Chhatra League and Swechasebak League led by former KCC mayor Khaleque, and former lawmakers Monnujan and Kamal, vandalised, looted and set fire on the BNP office on August 27 last.

The complainant could not be able to lodge a case fearing revenge, the complainant added.
