Road looks like farming land at Bakerganj

BARISAL, Nov 21: The Atakathi road runs from the heart of Atakathi Village under Ward No. 8 of Bharpasha Union through a place called Bhangapol on the Barisal-Patuakhali highway in Bakerganj Upazila of the district. The other side of the road is connected with Padrishibpur Union through Bakerganj-Barguna Regional Road.

According to field sources, about 4 km of the important public road of Bharpasha Union has fallen into disrepair. As the road has not been repaired, the brick slab has been removed. Big potholes have been created at various places on the road. It looks like farmland. People of the area move with extreme suffering. The road has been closed to traffic for a long time.

A recent visit found that the road has become impassable. Bricks do not exist on most of the roads. Sometimes, there are some parts but most of the places have no brick. Small and big holes have been created in it. Every day thousands of people of Atakathi, Khejura Bharpasha, Uttar Bharpasha villages are moving through this road. Students travel to more than ten educational institutions of the upazila every day through this road.

Executive Engineer of Upazila Local Government Engineering Department Hasnain Hossain said, "The road has been given to rural infrastructure development project for new construction. However, the project has not made any progress so far".
