Two more NCP leaders quits

Two more senior leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP), Khaled Saifullah and Khan Muhammad Mursaleen, resigned from the party. Khaled Saifullah, who served as joint convener and head of the party's policy and research wing, submitted his resignation in writing, while Mursaleen, the central joint chief coordinator, announced his decision publicly through social media. In a brief resignation letter addressed to NCP Convener Nahid Islam, Khaled Saifullah stated, "I am resigning from all positions and responsibilities of the NCP." The letter, which did not elaborate on the reasons behind his decision, was also sent to NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain. Saifullah, who is the husband of former senior joint member secretary Tasneem Zara, had been regarded as a key figure in shaping the party's policy framework and research agenda.

Mursaleen announced his resignation in a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon, December 1. In his post, he wrote, "I, Mursaleen, have been serving as the central joint chief coordinator of the National Citizens Party for so long." He added that he had also worked in the party's media cell, publicity and publication cell, and most recently served for a few days as secretary of the party's election-time media subcommittee. Announcing his departure, he stated, "I have decided to resign from all responsibilities and posts of the NCP from today." However, Mursaleen made it clear that his resignation was limited to the party structure, saying, "Although I am resigning from the NCP, I am not resigning from politics. See you on the streets."

The resignations come in the wake of the NCP's official announcement last Sunday of its electoral seat-sharing agreement with Jamaat. The development had already triggered internal dissent, culminating in the resignation of Tasneem Zara a day before the announcement. Tasneem Zara, who was the NCP's nominated candidate for the Dhaka-9 parliamentary constituency and a senior joint member secretary of the party, subsequently declared her intention to contest the seat as an independent candidate.
