KUSHTIA, Jul 24:The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday said that it had foiled an alleged attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push eight people into Bangladesh through the Kushtia border.

The incident was confirmed in a press release issued by BGB headquarter on Friday.

According to the statement, at around 510am on Friday, members of the Char Meghna Camp of the 146 BSF Battalion allegedly attempted to send eight unidentified individuals into Bangladesh by making them swim across a river near Border Pillar 1521-S, adjacent to the Jaypur Border Outpost (BOP) under the Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB).

The group comprised two men, four women and two transgender persons, the BGB said.

A BGB patrol immediately detected the movement and prevented the group from entering Bangladesh. Facing what the BGB described as a firm response from its personnel, the individuals were forced to return to the Indian side through the river, successfully thwarting the alleged push-in attempt.

The BGB said it remains vigilant and fully prepared to prevent any form of illegal border crossing and violations of border laws. It added that the force continues to carry out its duties with professionalism, vigilance and responsibility to ensure border security and maintain peace and order in border areas.
