Measles deaths reach 810

Five more children died with measles symptoms across Bangladesh on Friday, raising the total number of deaths associated with suspected and confirmed measles to 810.

During the same period, no deaths from dengue were reported. However, 181 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) daily report released yesterday.

The DGHS said that although five people died with measles symptoms on the day, no deaths from laboratory-confirmed measles were recorded during the period.

A total of 810 have died from measles and measles symptoms since March 15. Of these, 715 have died from measles symptoms. And measles infection has been confirmed in 95 people in sample tests.

A total of 187 new confirmed measles cases were detected during the period, while another 950 were reported to have developed measles symptoms. Since March 15, the country has recorded 15,194 laboratory-confirmed measles cases while suspected measles cases to 122,150 since March 15.

The DGHS report also said that of the 181 dengue patients admitted to hospitals during the reporting period, seven were admitted in Barishal Division, 71 in Chattogram Division, 13 in Dhaka Division outside the two city corporations, 15 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 29 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 25 in Mymensingh Division, two in Rajshahi Division, three in Sylhet Division and 16 in Khulna Division.
A total of 1,081 dengue patients are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals nationwide. 

As of July 24 this year, Bangladesh has recorded 12,201 dengue cases, while 11,081 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, the DGHS report added.
