BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday said Bangladesh can only move forward by embracing the philosophy, ideals and inclusive vision of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Speaking at a memorial discussion organized in Chattogram in remembrance of Buddhist spiritual leader Sangharaj Dr. Gyanashree Mahasthabir, Amir Khasru described Khaleda Zia as a globally respected leader whose thoughts continue to inspire people beyond borders.

He said people across South Asia and the world are mourning her, adding that her belief in peaceful coexistence among followers of all religions must be upheld.

“Her vision of unity and harmony is something the nation must follow,” he said, calling on people to pray for her.

The BNP leader also reiterated his party’s commitment to a peaceful and stable Bangladesh, noting that prolonged instability has affected the country.

He emphasized the need for collective efforts to restore peace and ensure public welfare.

Amir Khasru expressed concern over the declining culture of mutual respect and tolerance for differing opinions, urging society to revive democratic values.

Highlighting BNP’s vision for the future, he said Bangladesh must be built through unity, ensuring that the benefits of development reach every household and that no discrimination prevails.

The memorial event, titled National Anitya Sabha and Smriticharan, was organized by Bangladesh Buddhist Association to honour the late Agra Mahapandit Dr. Gyanashree Mahathero, the country’s highest-ranking Buddhist religious leader.
