NARAYANGANJ, Jan 6: Abdullah Al Amin, the National Citizen Party (NCP) candidate backed by the Jamaat e Islami led alliance, has appealed for public donation to fund his campaign in Narayanganj 4 constituency. His Facebook post on Sunday quickly drew attention and stirred discussion across social media.
Al Amin's nomination has been declared valid, and he is contesting from Fatullah under the 'Shapla Koli' symbol. In a notable development, Jamaat's nominated candidate and former Islami Chhatra Shibir President Abdul Jabbar has withdrawn from the race, extending support to Al Amin.
In his post, Al Amin introduced himself as a 'son of Narayanganj' and pledged to represent the people's voice in parliament.
He criticised the traditional political culture of 'godfathers and mafia centric politics,' vowing instead to establish a politics rooted in public welfare, transparency, and accountability.
"My politics will be people's politics," he wrote, promising to stand openly against extortion, syndicates, drugs, and corruption.
Al Amin explained that under electoral rules, he can spend a maximum of Tk 54.08 lakh - calculated at Tk 10 per voter, with 540,813 voters in the constituency. He appealed to residents to contribute towards this target, stressing that collective participation would make fundraising possible. "In the past, even an upazila election required crores of taka. I want to end that culture," he said.
The candidate assured that every taka received and spent would be publicly accounted for, reinforcing his commitment to transparency. "I have never been involved in corruption, nor taken unjust money. I will not accept funds from syndicates or dishonest sources," he declared.
Speaking to reporters, Al Amin added that once the fundraising goal is met, the open donation drive would be closed.
"We are already receiving strong responses. By running an election with people's money, I am paving the way for accountability and a new political culture," he said.
