The Bangladesh Boxing Federation (BBF) has formally honoured former national heavyweight boxer Syed Enayet Ali, now a resident of the United States, in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the sport on Wednesday at the Federation office on Wednesday.

On the day, a commemorative crest was presented to the former national heavyweight boxer by M A Quddus Khan, General Secretary of the Federation, acknowledging his multiple medal-winning performances at the South Asian Games and his achievements as a national boxing champion.

The accolade celebrates Syed Enayet Ali's outstanding career in the 91kg heavyweight category, where he competed regularly in the South Asian Games, winning silver medals in 1984 and 1985 and a bronze in 1987. In addition, he secured several national championship gold medals, establishing himself as one of Bangladesh's eminent boxers of the 1980s.

Interestingly, he also claimed the Mr Bangladesh Heavyweight bodybuilding title in 1988 before relocating to the United States in 1989.

Beyond his sporting achievements, Syed Enayet Ali has distinguished himself in community service and voluntary policing. He joined the NYPD Auxiliary Police in 2002, a voluntary wing of the department established in 1950 to support public safety.

Rising through the ranks, he became the first Auxiliary Police Sergeant in 2009 and the first Auxiliary Police Lieutenant on 9 March 2021. His recent promotion as NYPD's first Auxiliary Police Captain of Bangladeshi origin represents a historic milestone for the community.

Currently serving at the 114th Precinct, Queens North, he also holds the position of Corresponding Secretary of the Bangladesh American Police Association (BAPA), playing a key role in strengthening ties between law enforcement and the Bangladeshi-American community.
