Tarique Rahman to visit 3 flood-affected upazilas in Ctg

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit three flood-affected upazilas in Chittagong - Hathazari, Fatikchhari, and Banshkhali.

The visit has been finalized for August 9, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Saleh Shibly confirmed.

"The Prime Minister is going to Chittagong; it is now final," he said.

During his visit, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will distribute relief among flood victims and hand over newly constructed houses to families made homeless by the flooding.

This will be Tarique Rahman’s first official visit to Chittagong since assuming office as Prime Minister. The Chittagong district administration has initiated extensive preparations ahead of his visit. Party leaders and workers are also making thorough preparations to welcome the Prime Minister.

Sources said local administrations in the three upazilas have nearly completed constructing new houses for homeless flood victims ahead of the visit. The Prime Minister will hand over the keys to those affected. He will also address brief rallies and distribute relief materials on the spot.

A helipad is being prepared at a suitable site for the Prime Minister's landing. From there, he will attend a rally and distribute relief in West Banshkhali. In the same area, he will hand over 100 government-rebuilt houses to the affected families.

Idris Mia, Convener of Chittagong South District BNP, said, "Regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit, the Member Secretary and I were called to the Prime Minister’s Gulshan office today (Monday). We are going there. Party-wise, we have already prepared to welcome the Prime Minister."

When asked, Chittagong Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Sharif Uddin said, "We are making all necessary preparations surrounding the Prime Minister's visit. Official details have not been communicated yet. Once the final schedule is provided, our preparations will be completed accordingly."
