Myanmar, BD nationals arrested with arms, ammo

Cox's Bazar, Jan 14: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have arrested two criminals, including a Myanmar national, with illegal firearms and ammunition in Cox's Bazar.

The arrests were made on Wednesday during an operation conducted by a patrol team of the Mongjoypara Border Outpost (BOP) under BGB Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB). 

During the operation, BGB personnel recovered two locally made pistols, four rounds of ammunition, two machetes and two mobile phones from the suspects. Meanwhile, five to six other smugglers who were with them managed to flee into the nearby deep forest.

The arrested individuals were identified as Umang, 25, son of Suijanur of Mongjoypara in Bandarban's Naikhongchhari, and Panuya, 18, son of Mongchakon of Wilatong village in Myanmar's Maungdaw.

Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, commanding officer of the Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), confirmed the incident. He said the two suspects were arrested from the Gachhbonia border area based on intelligence information, and illegal weapons and ammunition were recovered from their possession.
