Rice import resumes at Hili Land Port after 52 days

DINAJPUR, Jan 21: Rice imports from India through the Hili Land Port in Dinajpur have resumed after a suspension of 52 days, following approval from the government to help stabilize the domestic market.
 
The approvals were issued three days ago, and rice import activities officially began on Wednesday.
On Wednesday afternoon, two Indian trucks carrying a total of 77 metric tons of rice entered Bangladesh through the Hili Land Port, Hili Customs Revenue Officer M. R. Bandhan confirmed.

He said that rice imports through the port had remained suspended since 30 November last year. After nearly one month and 22 days, importers have resumed duty-free rice imports. Considering domestic demand.
